4TH MARCH 2022

We are working hard to produce and bring you some lovely horses and ponies. I'm slowly fixing but feeling well enough to be able to enjoy a few days outs hunting, which is my main enjoyment with the horses! Even if I am riding somewhat slower mounts than normal and trying to only jump when I actually have too rather than throwing myself over hedges for fun! 

Sadly our current groom is leaving due to health issues so we are sadly looking for part time yard staff / freelance groom! From March 12th, max of 8 easy horses ( all on shavings with auto drinkers and a blower so no sweeping! ) indoor barn. 7-10 am then 3.30-5pm ( times can be slightly flexible for right person). Must be reliable. No riding required, but if you are keen to ride we could accommodate! Good rates paid for good staff! Please share to anyone who may be interested! 21st DECEMBER 2021 

I have realised I haven't updated our news in well over a year! This year has been very busy, with myself suffering a very badly broken leg from a young horse in May and a long hospital stay and recovery being slow. I realised that something had to change and so moved base to Pulborough to split bussiness with Paul Anderson, my very long term friend of 15 years. Over the years myself and Paul have been in several yards together, trained together and even lived together! He brings a wealth of experience in both Show Jumping and Dressage and is a very strong rider. He is also OCD on horses turnout and is relearning his love of hunting with me! We are continuing to run together from our base in Pulborough, five minutes from Coombelands Equestrian. We are offering sales and schooling livery, training for horse and rider and some lovely sourced Irish horses for sale. The yard itself has a lovely, smart indoor barn, wash box with solarium, horse walker, lunge pen and 20 X 40 school in which we work from with Coombelands being very easy to get to for training. Please don't hesitate to get in touch if we can help you in any way. Having a good bussiness partner definitely means "two heads are better than one" and it's been a huge relief as has enabled me to continue to work through what has been a terrible year. We have worked hard to get a great team of staff and run a tight ship, rejoining us recently part time has been Fynn who rode for me as a BS junior on all my ponies, hes' now 21 so time really does fly!

27TH MARCH 2020

With the current pandemic obviously really causing trouble to small businesses we are trying to think of ways we can still love forward finding some of our horses new homes. Everyone obviously has a lot of time on their hands and so without the pressure of competitions, it’s a great time to get a new horse settled and build foundations of a long and happy partnership. During this period we will be changing the way we sell horses to buyers having the option to buy unseen. This is on a 30 day trial basis, a refundable deposit is taken and kept in a holding account and all horses are open to vetting once you have them home. Vettings at the moment are largely cancelled as it’s not classed as “essential or emergency “ work and we feel this is the best way to move forwards. I can accommodate any requests for further videos, you tell me what you want to see and we will do it! We can also do live streamed viewings, letting you tell us how you want to see the horse ridden. We will try and move forwards at the difficult time, and wish all our clients good health and a relaxing time off!

 

 

 

30TH APRIL 2019

Nice Easter team beach trip last week on a rather warm Easter Sunday, L-R Percy and Hazel, Joe and Natalia, Joey and Emily (her own horse) and Bob and Fynn. We get our horses out a much as possible to expose them to everything we can think of before sale, making sure we sell well rounded individuals who we know as best we can in their time with us. Also it makes the job a bit more fun! I'm looking currently at cutting numbers right down to a select few, this is mainly because people don't seem to want to put any work in to horses at the moment, and producing average RC horses really won't pay the bills as by the time they have stayed 3 months, been out schooling and to some shows they will have cost more than any profit on them and we are selling at a loss. People need to accept that in a world where everything is instant gratification, horses are the polar opposite! They take time to school, build a partnership and trust. I love my youngsters, producing young horses is a real passion and so by cutting back I can concentrate on better horses and ponies, more talented types taht will give us as riders  a bit more fun in the process!

 

MARCH 5TH 2019

I just realised that this part hasn't had an update for years! Our yard has had a bit of facelift with all stables painted and looking smarter, Hoping to get a new surface on the school this year and finally move the horse walker. We have had a slow winter as getting horses over due to the equine flu has been very slow. Things have picked up now and lets hope Brexit won't slow us down as they are threatening to change import regulations of horses, so we now might need more paper work, blood tests etc. This will only increase costs! We have it very easy now although as the pound has fallen so badly aginst the euro the prices of Irish horses is through the roof. But hey ho, that's all another story...

 

 

OCTOBER 29TH 2017

After a busy summer we are now well underway with another seasons hunting. Horses are all fit and have been Autumn hunting to date. We are as always supplying hirelings for the Surrey Union. rates for this season are £180 at weekends and £160 weekdays. All riders must come to the yard and complete an assessment ride first and sign a seasons disclaimer, all riders must also have their own 3rd party liability insurance in place, either by joining the Countryside Aliance or through another provider. 

 

APRIL 2ND 2017

LEASE SCHEME-

We are pleased to offer a selection of our horses and ponies for lease long or short term. We know all our stock very well and therefore they should do what they say on the tin. A lease period will let you try throughly at home and out at shows before either making your mind up to purchase or can be a short term option for those who need a horse to fill in on account of injury or temporary measure. The cost of this is £250 per month. Borrowers are responsible for all ongoing costs i.e. Shoes, worming, vets bills for accident, illness or injury unless for any pre existing condition stated at time of lease beginning so insuring the horse or pony is advised. References from potential homes must be provided and initially you must be within a 50 mile radius of our yard in GU6 7SW. We are always on the phone for advice and help and happy to come and teach borrowers if local. You must be prepared to come and try the horse or pony in the normal way and this will only be an option for certain horses, sales liveries and those on the yard on behalf of owners will not apply. The following horses are available now; Candy, Tori, Hamilton. The following horses are possible for short term lease with view to purchase; Barney, Roger, Lenny. 

 

 

MARCH 29TH

Spring is here and a lot of people are starting to look for their new equine friend so-

Advice for first time or novice buyers.

PART ONE- viewing.
I get a lot of novice buyers and nervous riders come to visit. So here is how I feel it should go when trying a horse.
See an advert you like for a horse, call the seller. A quick text to ask if it's still for sale is perfectly acceptable, hundreds of questions by text are not! Questions are easier answered over the phone. Ask about the horses history, what type of rider it would suit etc. Then arrange a viewing.
Anyone that is inexperienced should take an instructor or experienced friend to view with them. See the horse in its stable, caught from the field if appropriate and handled. At this point your experienced help should run their hands over the horse and feel for any lumps or bumps. You can also pick up feet, make sure the horse is good to handle for yourself also. You can ask to see the horse trotted up in hand. Remember that young horses are often uneducated in this and so might need a chase and a bit of help! Look for a horse that moves straight, and isn't clearly lame or favouring one leg. Once satisfied then tack up. Note anything in your head that you think may be slightly wrong as if you like the horse you can mention this to the vet prior to vetting. 
You should watch the horse being tacked up, its reaction to girth and saddle can tell a lot. I would beware of a horse that swings out or humps up at the saddle, this could indicate a sore back or a cold back. Watch the horse being mounted, does he stand quietly at the block? Again some young horses and many Irish horses are not used to the mounting block so may fidget. 
Always watch the horse ridden first, even if just for five minutes. Does he go forward nicely with a happy expression? Do as he's asked first time? Don't be afraid to ask the rider to do certain things, esp if you know that as a rider you may do them, i.e. If your prone to losing your stirrups ask to see the rider lose them, you can then safely see if the horse will react. If your looking for a dressage horse ask to see any established lateral work. If your looking for a jumper it should be jumping at least a couple of fences. An eventer unless facilities are on site may need to be viewed separately cross country or the seller may have videos. Once you are satisfied with the horse or the rider feels they have done enough then mount up. Remember some horses are not used to switching riders in the school so it may be sensible to bring them out again to do so. 
Try the horse at your own pace, only do what you feel comfortable doing, listen to any advice given by the rider or your experienced friend. You may be very nervous, but take a deep breath and concentrate on the horse underneath you. Try and feel and connect. Do you like the feeling in your hand? Is it easy enough off your leg? Can you steer? Try in all paces you feel comfortable in, maybe run through a little dressage test in your head or try some moves you have learnt in your lessons. Try it over some fences, is it easy to ride and turn to a fence? Does it back off or take you? Now is the time to ask if you can see the horse leave the yard alone and walk up the road in some traffic. It should not nap but some young horses may hang back or call back to their mates! 
Once your satisfied with your ride say thank you, dismount and hand the horse back. There is no harm in sitting on and if you really don't like it after two minutes saying that it's not for you, rather than wasting a lot of time aimlessly wondering round. Your friend can film you riding so you can see how you look as a combination. 
A good seller at this point will not put you under any pressure to buy the horse. You should make your own decisions based on what you have seen. Don't be afraid to ask to view again and take out for a hack or to ride just in the school, but on a second viewing you should really get on first without seeing the horse ridden again. The biggest thing to remember is a good horse will always sell, so don't leave weeks between viewings as you are likely to miss out. If on first view you are smitten and after a chat you and your instructor or friend agree the horse is for you, call back or pop back in and leave a deposit. 
Deposits are normally only refunded on a vet not passing the horse as suitable. Not if you change your mind, this should be written down on a receipt. 
Ask the seller for a list of local vets. You should have at least three to choose from, or use your own vet if they will visit the area. There is no harm in doing research in to vets and booking another if you can find one, however, we have had clients before book a horse pre purchase examination with a local small animal vet who dabbled in horses! The results were bizarre to say the least!

OCTOBER 2OTH

Another summer sadly over, opening meet just around the corner. We hve been busy enjoying the horses here, we have some lovely ponies in and I haven't a vclue why some of them are still here, all are now out hunting with our niovice children riding and being pretty saintly. Looking forwards to our yard shortly being re concreted. Which will make a hige difference this winter as it's so hard to sweep and keeps flooding. Not long to wait now. AUGUST 31ST 2016

The school holidays are nearly over and the ponies can breathe a sigh of relief! They have all been exceptionally well behaved and although trade wise it has beena  little slow this summer, an effect I'm sure which has partly been brought on by Brexit, the ponies have been great and are all more than ready to go find new homes. We took all our helper children for their first experience hunting yesterday to the children's meet, they all di very well and we had no tears and no fallers!  I try and operate a yard where everyone feels welcome and the keen local children (and adults) can come and get experience even if they don't have their own pony, I feel this is important as there aren't many places that allow practical experience. my team of 10-11yr old girls probably know more practically than a lot of college students will know after two years of being on campus! It also helps get the ponies used to every day life, child proofed and most of my lot would be unsurprised by most things, esp. after the school holidays!

JULY 6TH 2016

"Summer" is underway, at least the rain is warm... As always we have a selection of ponies avaialable for Pony Club camp to hire if you have no pony or your pony pulls a sick note. From 128cm upwards all fit, vaccinated and ready to go. Please call if we can help!

A couple of days ago we took some ponies and children to Hayling Island for a fun beach ride. They all behaved perfectly and we had a lovely evening and took some cracking photos.

HORSE VIEWING SERVICE

Are you keen to buy a horse, but lack the experience to know if it’s going to be right for you or has a  good attitude to it’s work? Do you wish to purchase unseen? 

I am r pleased to announce I  am now happy to view horses on behalf of clients at yards within the South East (reasonable  distance of GU6 7SW)

I have many years experience working on dealing yards, with competition horses as well as having kept and bred my own to a high level and produced young jumping ponies on through the grades running my own dealing yard for four years.  This means there really isn’t a lot that gets past me, I’m very good at spotting things which private buyers often wouldn’t. I am happy to view horses at any yard within the home counties, either as an independent viewing or with clients present. This is not a substitute for getting a good vet in to vet each horse before purchase, but will give you an insight in to horse’s attitude and behaviour and suitability fir your job. I am happy to handle, ride, watch others ride or see how the partnership fits together. 

This service could be invaluable for those considering purchasing unseen, or those who are unable to make a decision. I will give fair, honest assessments of each horse presented and all findings to be discussed over the phone with the purchaser. Videos can also be taken. 

The cost for this service is £30 per hour plus £.50p a mile travelled from my base in GU6 7SW.

Of course I would advise all purchases are subject to a pre purchase vets examination.

APRIL 12th 2016

Pleased to announce the birth of a very special little Colt foal. No name yet. Out of my mare Mousti Van OVeris Z (Machno Carwyn X Jus De Pom) by Grey Palace. Bred to be top 148 cm jumper, hoping to run him on entire as there aren't enough good pony stallions about. He's exactly what I wanted so vert very happy and both him and mum are doing well. 

 

MARCH 24th 2016

I've finally had my last operation on my shoulder this week, so should hopefully be back to normal riding in a few weeks time, hoping that I can superglue myself to the saddle and not reinjure myself! This year at least...We have just started to get really busy again as Spring is very nearly here and so are currently busy sourcing new horses for your pleasure. 

This morning we also had a nice surrise with another mention in the Horse and Hound, this time with our super old resident Mr Yummy, who with his owner Sarah, is making quite a dent in his local BD circuit. Proving that chunky cobs just aren't for happy hacking! It makes it very worthwhle when we see our old faces doing so well in their new homes, and we love to see how they are doing, soplease do continue to send in your photos!

FEB 24TH 2016

I'm back home after three lovely weeks in some very hot weather, having trouble adjusting to the very cold weather, not too jet lagged. Fully contactable again and currently looking at restocking the yard with some lovely new horses and ponies. Any sales livery enquiries please contact me. We are esp. interested in any 148's as have waiting clients, Fynn is also now short on rides for the junior BS shows, so anyone with a good SJ pony get in touch, very interested in anything qualified up for second rounds but without a junior jockey to take them, as ours have now sold. FEB 1ST 2016

I'm still broken and can't do a lot at home, so am escaping the country for a bit. As of tomorrow I will be away for three weeks. NOVEMBER 23RD 2015

Recovery is very very boring, I have just got home from a brief spell in lovely warm and sunny Tenerife, and really didn't want to come home. The problem is that when your body starts to be filled with metal bits, the cold weather suddenly becomes a lot more fierce, it will bite right through you and makes joints sieze up. Totally unpleasant.

 

 

NOVEMBER 6TH 2015

Recovery is slow and been hampered by my stupidity of thinking I can ride, having a saddle slip and falling off, creating more soft tissue damage and reduced movement. So back to living life in baggy, easy to get on clothes (not a sexy look) and doing not a lot with the horses or on the yard. On the plus side all paper work is in order and I  can thrill myself by doing my tax return! Oh the joys! I'm going on a cheeky holiday next week to remove temptation of further destroying myself, the yard of course will remain open and fully staffed.

Having so much time off leaves me lots of time to think about bussiness, the trade and horse sales in general. Recently I've been left completely baffled by a proportion of the general public who buy horses unseen from social media on an auction basis, then wonder why on arrival the horses have unfortunate habits, added extras and aren't useful animals. Buying unseen from unknown sources is never to be advised, esp. for the every day rider who  most likely thinks they are better than they are. Buying without vetting, untried is an even worse idea, as a good vet should have some horse sense and be able to get a feel for each animal and notice any lumps or bumps prior to purchase. Forewarned is forearmed! When I was a kid we used to love going to Southall, Reading and Ashford and going through the horses offered for sale. You quickly learn to spot a rough diamond and it only really gets dangerous once 18 years upwards with a bit of your own spending money, however, we learnt quickly from our mistakes and learned not to just buy the pretty ones or those tarted up for sales, the same should apply to buying horses online! Most buyers don't have the luxury of being able to learn from their mistakes with space for multiple horses or experience to sort out a naughty one, so why they think they can take such a gamble is beyond me. In short, I would advise all purchasers look beyond trying to "bag a bargain" and if need be, save some more cash to find their perfect horse, make sureit's throughly tried on viewing and have a pre purchase vetting,in the very least have another experienced pair of eyes view the horse before purchase.

OCTOBER 21ST 2015

I am slowly recovering  as after I was released from Hospital the first time, my shoulder wasn't healing at all and so I went to see a physio and was automatically sent straight back to hospital. On re X-ray I was told I had a grade 5 shoulder seperation and needed prompt surgery to fix it. So now my shoulder looks more normal but is pinned and plated back together using a hook plate, and my tendons and ligaments can slowly start repairing as they were totally ruptured.  So now 4 weeks on from surgery I am healing slowly but ahve to be very careful what I do, riding and driving are out the question currently, although I ave had two cheeky sit on nice horses! (shoulder paid for it the next day though and I don' think I will again till fully healed!). As an active person it is very frustrating not to be able to do what you love, thankfully I am still able to work horses on the lunge and to clip, although struggle with clipping out full heads at the moment as can't get my left arm high enough to hold ears to clip!  But at least I'm partly useful, if I were a horse it would have been a trip to the hunt kennels! 

The yard staff have been amazing the past few weeks keeping everything going, and I'm very thankful for them and also to my family for putting up with me when just out of hospital. Even though I currently can't drive the lorry everyone has mucked in and helped and we have got most of the horses out to some shows and also to some Autumn hunting, which has been very educational for the youngsters and a bit of fun for the girls on the yard, who def. deserve to have some enjoyment out the job! 

Even though I'm fairly useless I can still go internet shopping for horses and have selected over a lovely few new Irish boys and girls and have purchased myself three very lovely 3 yr olds to crack on with once I'm better. I needed some incentive to fix up quicker and they are giving me that as I can't wait to have them broken and riding and at some little outings. I love buying 3yr olds and doing them from scratch, as I  know then exactly what they have been up to and they won't have had any bad experiences, making wonderful easy horses. As everyone knows I love my smaller athletic bay mares and two are very exciting prospects one by Luidam and the other by Harlequin Du Carel. Both importantly in bay and in mare form and will be aimeda t 4yr old classes next summer. I am always surprised by the ammount of people horse hunting who won't consider a mare, they have always been my preffered choice as are infinately smarter than geldngs, a trait that in a competition horse you would surely want to encourage. I havea also noticed that most really good tolerant school ponies or PC gems seem to be mares and a lot of mares will nanny their riders safely,where as geldings are little less considerate. Of course there are brilliant ponies in both sexes but I would always pick a mare over a gelding. 

Must dash, we are off to clear round SJ later this afternoon, hopefully next time I write this blog I will be properly back in the saddle!

SEPTEMBER 11TH 1015

As a lot of you know I had avry bad accident while show jumping my horse at Felbridge which resulted in 8 days in hospital with a bleeed on the brain and also a totally buggered shoulder. I'm still slowly mending so things have been a bit odd here at the yard, Emmy has beeen in charge and doing a gret job, I'm now back but please bear with em as memory is def not working very well nd nor is my eyesight! I can't see the computercreen very well so sorry about spelling mistakes etc. I'm very glad I was wearing a hat otherwise wouldn't be typing now,horse was uninjured. I can't drive or ride at moment so its very slow!

JULY 20TH 2015

Busy busy summer season here, lots of ponies in and we are out jumpign nearly every weekend at the moment with ponies picking up placings and wins everywhere.

Limited Pony livery vacancies shortly available at our lovely yard in Ewhurst, also a small number of ponies available for lease from our yard. Ideally suited to children and teenagers who need a supportive environment to further their careers in show jumping or eventing. Part or full livery basis with training and help on site. We are out jumping most weekends. All boxes rubber matted and with auto drinkers. Horse walker, turnout (weather dependent), all weather school with set of fences, Xc training fences, liveries own tack/store room. We are happy to take ponies on long or short term basis. Friendly and fun yard who are very active.

 

 

FEB 26TH 2015

I am home from a long overdue holiday to Australia and yard is back in full swing. We have some lovely horses and ponies about and a good few decent level 148cms SJ ponies, mostly not advertised so please call with requirements. Sales livery currently has a small waiting list. The last couple of months have been a bit slow but Spring is round the corner and everything will pick up quickly. 

A note about horses advertised- Most of the horses advertised on this site are at our yard in Ewhurst in Surrey and for sale directly through NT Equine. However, from time to time I do allow friends to advertise on here but only if I have personally seen the horse and know it to be sound and genuine. Any adverts from other people on this site will state please call them directly and give a number. Anyone using this site to advertise is also aware that they must agree to using our standard terms of sale, 7 days warrenty and deposit refundable upon failure of vetting. Please remember this when visiting other yards with horses advertised on here. I would like to think that by allowing others to operate on our terms we can increase the number of horses available to the public and give more choice with a recommended seller and some peace of mind. If you have any problems with any of the other agents who use this site please do get in contact and your concerns will be swiftly addressed. As we are all aware, selling horses is an emotive bussiness and can be difficult, esp. if acting as an agent to a third party sale. It can be very difficult to keep everyone happy!

JANUARY 5TH 2015

Happy New Year to all of our clients and friends past and present. 2014 was lovely for us here as we are finally settled in and had a whole year working out of Pitchwood Stud. 2015 will be exciting as we have kicked off the year with the arena being finally resurfaced and so trail facilities here are much improved. We are just waiting now for the final topping of Flexi- Ride before we can really start jumping, but it's been heaven being able to ride somewhere flat, dry and with no dips or holes! The horses are really feeling well and riding so much better, they certainly are enjoying not swimming everyday! Once the school is completed we will be purchasing some lovely new show jumps and I'm looking at extending the XC schooling fences we built last year for the Spring/Summer. The horses and ponies are all going well but we won't be out and about much at shows until the start of March as the day light hours aren't long enough at the weekends to fit everything in. This is giving us a good more couple of months to school and produce the competition ponies at home ready for the Spring season.

We currently have space for SALES LIVERY as of now and are taking bookings for Breaking and Schooling livery for the end of February. The yard runs through the winter with minimal horses as the land here is very wet and can't cope with horses living out, and it works better to save the grazing for the better months. This also means that over the horrible weather the staff can relax a bit and have holidays as we are always so busy over the Summer.

JULY 21ST 2014

We are keeping busy here and today are spending most of the day packing for Welsh home pony which starts tomorrow. No less than 7 of our current ponies are going to compete there this week, so make sure you say hello if you see one of the team! I can't wait for 5 days of jumping and fun. The big shows are always great as it's lovely to catch up with everyone, make new friends and hopefully win some classes! Ponies have all been finely tuned ready to rock so we are all very hopeful of some good results this week. I will put some lovely photos up on our return next Sunday. While we are away the yard is staffed and everything else is in work, vieiwings are possible but please give at least 24 hours notice!

Speaking of good results another of our old ponies is on fine form. Conan Spartacus and Georgie Darlington qualified for HOYS last week at the Festival of Hunting in a strong 143 cm workers class. We will all be there watching and cheering them on so roll on HOYS! Having ponies do their jobs at top level makes it all worth it!

Well its still wet, wet, wet here and we have just learnt to get on with typical British resolve and grin and bare it! Horses are going well, lots of trips out in the lorry to go schooling recently and they are all getting well prepared for the coming Spring and Summer season. We managed to get out hunting this morning which was rather slippy and soggy, but it was lovely to see the hounds working again after such a long time off. The yard is certainly getting busier and we currently have a wait list for sales and schooling liveries, which is a good thing! Just wish it would dry out a bit so I could keep a few more out! This week we also said a sad goodbye to Amelia who has left the yard to pasture new to join her husband at a new job in Newbury. We all wish Amelia the best of luck and hope she has as much fun there as she has had here. Joining the team is our new lad James, who is very experienced and fitted right in. James has worked for two years as head lad at Exmoor Evenitng before their move to Florida. He has done a lot of BSJA and eventing and is a very capable jockey, proving quiet yet very effective and we are all looking forward to getting the horses out to some shows ASAP! 

I have been busy gathering a new string of BS ponies ready to run and sell through the season, keep an eye out on here as obviously they will be advertised as they progress on through the grades. See you all soon!

JANUARY 7TH 2014

Happy New Year! We have seen in the New Year with a lot of throughly horrid, soggy weather. The horses are battling on through it and so are the humans, although it's a bit depressing to look at the sand school which closely resembles a bog/swamp and the power on the yard keeps tripping out due to the water. Add to that the lorry keeps trying to do very unhealthy things and is currently having its starter motor replaced and costing me a fortune and the year is therefore starting swimingly! ;) I'm counting us lucky though that unlike some friends, our stables aren't foot deep in water and my house isn't flooded. Not long till spring! Hunting is off the cards also at the moment not only due to waterlogged ground but also due to the fact hounds have got the dreaded Kennel Cough. So to escape the weather I'm off on my holidays for a week tomorrow, which is long overdue and I can't wait. Amelia is manning the fort at home and so for the next week if anyone wants to come and meet our horses she can be contacted on 07928 183539. 

Once I return home I will be planning a trip over to Ireland to restock, I am going to be on the hunt for a new string of 148cm ponies and some more quality Connies and partbreds, please do get in touch if your after anything and I will do my best to find it!

Going in to 2014 I will be doing a lot more horse and rider training as well as producing the normal string of lovely youngsters at home. There are some dates booked for the coming months and I'm trying to organise as much indoors as possible, both over weekends and midweek. I specialise in producing young horses and ponies, so these clinics will be very useful to anyone with a youngster or more novice combinations who wants them to be carefully introduced to competition work. It's so far been really lovely to see some of our ex horses and clients coming for training and see how they are all progressing, def a perk of the job! Over the summer I will be running some of these clinics at home at Pitchwood, and I'm looking at improving our facilities at home further to accomodate this. New jumps are planned and also a dressage arena on grass. So keep an eye on the events page to keep updated with what's going on in the area. I'm happy to try and do whatever people would like, so if you want XC, gridwork, etc. or a specific venue then please drop me a line and I'll do my best to sort it out.

NOVEMBER 28TH 2013

We are fully settled here at Pitchwood Stud and I must apologise for not updating the news section frequently, I must try and remember to do it more often! Horses have all had a wonderful Summer and Autumn, and we are well in the swing of hunting season now and enjoying it. Of course this means we have lots of clipping to do which everyone hates, but horses look so lovely once it's done! We won't be having any new Irish faces this side of Xmas, as have plenty here to get on with and it would be nice to be able to wind down a little over the festive period. Probably won't happen though! I've got lots of lovely 4/5 yr olds to get my teeth stuck in to over the winter, ready to bring out eventing and SJ next season (yes that's right, eventing! Have got some lovely horses about who will excel in this field, so it seems a shame not to take them, although not sure if I will ride them myself or pass the ride on to Annie! ;) 

We currently have Sales livery spaces and also some schooling/breaking spaces for ponies. Waiting clients esp. for 148cms ponies!

JUNE 4TH 2013

The horses are all moved and settled at our lovely new yard. We have been very busy painting and smartening it all up so it's looking fabulous. Yard warming party soon! I have just returned from a shopping trip in Ireland and bought 6 lovely new connemara geldings from 14hh upwards. All will be ready to view on the weekend of June 14th, so please call if your interested in coming. They range from first pony club pony types to proper performance models. Every single one of them left me with a big smile after riding them and I can't wait to do more with them!

Anyone out there who wants to sponsor a show jump? As we are moving shortly I am looking for jump sponsors, I am currently saving like mad to purchase a whole new set of fences, but if anyone with their own company wants to sponsor and individual fence that would be great. An ideal chance for you to have all your company graphics and number on display to all our clients, and your fence will be used in many photos which have a huge circulation through our advertising on national websites and through our own wesite. Once moved we will also be starting some clear round evenings/Sundays so again more exposure for your company. Anyone interested please get in touch by phone or email.

Apologies for not updating this news sections much recently, I've been very very busy and keep on forgetting! The big news here is that after one year at Woodlands farm we are off again shortly and decamping over to Ewhurst in Surrey to a lovely yard called Pitchwood Stud. It's not been an easy decision as our current yard is an excellent location, however our new place will be right in the heart of hunting country and is a lot more compact, therefore a lot easier to manage. Also as we will now have sole use of the facilities it will make showing horses alot easier, and I can finally leave my fences out in the school without fear of being told off by "dressage" riders!

All in all it will be another exciting time. Thanks to all the friends at Woodlands who have helped us over the last year and mucked in and out, we look forward to welcoming you all at our new base! 

Moving of course means change, so in this respect I am pleased to announce that there will be a couple of vacencies for full, hunting or part livery, if anyone is interested in the area. There will also of course be the normal spaces for sales and breaking liveries which we have come and go throughout the year. The weather is finally picking up and so is horse sales, so there has never been a better time to get your horse or pony in to sell. Once moved I intend to keep concentrating on the more pony side of things, as not only get great satisfaction producing them at home, but also love seeing them out with our junior riders at shows. As I like to operate a very friendly yard, I would like to extend the invitation for anyone local to the area to pop in and say hello, we are always looking for keen helpers who don't have their own ponies that want to learn and have fun with ours.

NOVEMBER 14TH 2012

Hunting is now well under way and we are trying to get out and about at least twice a week. The yard has also been completly manic and we have had a sudden influx of rising four year olds (both ours and other peoples) in to break and ride away. They are certainly keeping us all very busy at home! The horses are all enjoying the hunting, and are all looking very fit and well. Please do call if your after a nice hunter as we are also more than happy for our lot to be tried on the field. 

After a rather crashing fall over a large hedge at the opening meet, I'm pleased to say that our friend and part time rider, Miahs, is now safely on the mend. It really makes you realise how dangerous this hobby can be sometimes and I urge every one who rides to always make sure they wear a hard hat with chinstrap fastened at all times. Even the most acomplished rider can have an accident and not having proper head gear on is simply not worth it. Miah's hat almost certainly saved his life, and although the hat was completely broken by the force of having a horse land on top of it, his head was not and it has taught us all a valuable lesson in making sure we always do up our chin straps!

Following on from recent interviews with horse and hound magazine, I have also just been interviewed by Your Horse for January 2013, look out for the article on the yard in there!

On another note starting January 2013 I will be starting to run a monthly " Sales Master class". This is for anyone currently trying to sell a horse or pony, or indeed buy one! Run over a day and using your own horse or pony all animals will be given a makeover for sales, have a photo shoot done at our yard and then practical advice given on writing adverts for sales. Of course by bringing your horse to us we will also have seen it, and can then offer advice on where to go with it and may even possibly have one of our waiting clients looking for something like it. 

The day will cover the following-

* Practical assessment of your horse, conformation, movement and handling.

* Makeover time! Top tips on presentation, grooming, mane pulling, trimming etc. How to get the very best from your horse or pony and enhance it!

* Ridden work including a practical asssessment of the horse in work. Photoshoot in our school (or jumping field, weather allowing) , photos taken by us will be emailed on to owners, own cameras are also welcome!

* Advice on writing an advert

* How to deal with visitors, what to show your horse doing, how to present it and how to proceed.

* Advice on vettings and what to expect.

The day should be a real help to anyone looking to sell their horse, or even those who are looking to buy. The price of the masterclass is £100 per horse, and £30 per horseless spectator (if not bringing own horse). We will also have a few of our own horses taking part as examples, so plenty of tips and advice to be had.

OCTOBER 9TH 2012

Busy, busy, busy here! Our yard in the past weeks has been full of visitors, lots of horses coming and going and a sudden influx of Sales liveries. All the horses are going really well and we have been out and about with most of them, hunting, hunter trailing and show jumping. Owing to how busy we have been I am taking a short but well deserved holiday as of Saturday 13th October for one week. The yard will of course be open for bussiness but please can anyone enquiring about horses call Leon on 07818 697547, he is manning the fort while I lay by a pool with a large cocktail in Rhodes! I will be back on October 21st hopefully not too hung over and fresh and ready for the start of the hunting season the weekend after.

Right, must dash, lots of packing for my holiday too do and I still have to try and remove all the fur from my clothes after clipping today! Yuck!

AUGUST 16TH 2012

On a more than slight Olympic comedown here after one of the best games ever! It was fantastic to watch our GB riders finally do so well in our sport and at times completely heartbreaking (if anyone deserved individual gold it was Nick Skellton!) and for two weeks the top class equestrian action has kept us on the edge of our seats. I was lucky enough to go to experience Greenwich park twice, once for the XC phase of the eventing and also for the final of the individual show jumping. The atmosphere was like no other show I have ever attended and it was great to see so many of the "non horsey" public enjoying the equestrian disciplines. Hopefully a possitive impact will be felt right down to grass roots levels and riding schools and we shall see an increase in "bums in saddles".  Let's also hope that now GB riders have gained the recognition they so deserved more owners will come forward to help keep the top rides in this country and support the sport. I would love to see nothing more than the wonderful Stallion Don VHP Z (currently owned by the Light's at Pyecombe) to be bought by a UK buyer and produced on in this country by a UK rider in time for Rio 2016. So if anyone reading this has a spare £2mil and cares about one of our real hopefuls then please put your hand in your pocket and lets keep this horse and also some of our other up and coming stars!

The Modern Pentathlon at London 2012 was also very special as it featured two horses sold though NT Equine (Warrenstown Q and Trinidad). Both behaved perfectly and were brilliant in front of the big crowds and electric atmosphre. Warrenstwon Q (AKA Jonny) has always been a firm favourite and is a real showman, having previously done top level WH classes. Both of these horses are also exceptionally good hunters and can be seen out with the Surrey Union weekly in hunting season! I love seeing horses we have sold go on to great things and so if you have one of our horses or ponies please do send me updates as it really brightens up the day!

At home the horses are going well and we are very busy, lots of lovely new Irish horses have arrived this week and are working really well. We have also been busy with more PC rallies and lots of local shows. My own lovely Toffee cob has now finished his showing season and is being schooled up ready for some mid winter BD and I'm currently searching high and low for nice cobs for this hunting season and next show season, although as soon as I get a nice one someone always seems to want to buy it!

AUGUST 10TH 2012

We have been in the new yard a couple of months now and everyone is settling in well, all the horses are loving it and so are the humans! Our boys and girls have been kept busy so far in to the summer holidays with several attending PC Camps and lots of shows. We have had a few ups and downs, mainly with naughty Toffee becoming a bit of a Houdini and planning regular escapes to other parts of the county. Toffee is now safely enclosed and I really hope he can't figure out a way of his current field! The facilities here at Woodlands are proving fab to try horses out, it's brilliant having a good variety of XC fences to really put the young horses through their paces. We are all very much looking forward to the start of hunting, and as always our first outing will be to the Childrens meet at the end of the month. I will be pleased to offer hunting livery this season so if any one reading this is interested, please give me a call.

We have moved! At last! Been at the new yard just over two weeks and both horses and humans are absoloutely loving it! It's lovely having such fantastic facilities and good grazing for our horses. We now have limited vaccencies for full, part and sales liveries. It's so nice and peaceful! We have a cracking selection of horses in to sell currently and lots more to come, so do call if your after anything. A few pictures for you to enjoy-

Lots has been going on here. Myself and Leon returned from a lovely shopping trip to Ireland yesterday. We have 12 new horses and ponies on route, the first batch will arrive next Tuesday. I'll put a sneak peak below of some of the new faces. It was great to get over there and we rode all our new arrivals at least twice before making our minds up. They are all easy to ride and lovely types. I'm very excited by a few of them, esp. my new super natural jumping horse who is 15.3hh and 5yrs coloured chap and also we found a stunning LW county standard show cob mare. I now can't wait to get them home! We also bought Mr Delicious, who is full brother to the recently sold (and very much missed) Mr Yummy. He's every bit like his brother, but a little bit younger and is also broken to harness. The first few are arriving next week, the rest will follow on and join me at the new yard in June.

Before going to Ireland I had a day at Windsor horse show with Toffee. We shared the lorry with Katherine who was riding Cocoa in the interhunt relay. Surrey Union did exceptionally well and came 3rd out of 32 teams. Windsor was cold, wet and muddy and the rings were like a bog. Toffee was a super star though and despite it being his biggest ever show and even having to cope with seeing the musical band (flags, trumpets and all) of the mounties go past, behaved perfectly. It's always such a relief when a young horse dosent let the atmosphere go to its head and keep all four feet routed to the floor! Pic of him in the ring underneath, he tried really hard but was a bit green and went unplaced. A good effort though and we both enjoyed ouselves. Many thanks to my long suffering boyfriend/groom Tom for coming along to help also!

Speaking of the new yard, painting and planning is well underway, I thought you might like to see some photos of some of our new facilities. I will take a lot more once the yard is fully painted and ready and the horses are in. We will be having an open day on June 10th as a bit of a yard warming party. MAY 1ST 2012

Where do I start?! Well firstly I have exciting news that on June 1st we will be moving! After 5 years at Chessington Equestrian we will be moving to a new yard about ten minutes away. It's lovely, between Cobham and Leatherhead and has all the facilties we could ever need, namely large outdoor school, small indoor school, ample stabling, XC training field, well fenced turnout and most importantly it's all ours! The yard itself has been empty for a while now, and needs a bit of a tart up, but I'm sure it will be spick and span shortly. The other fab thing about the new place is that its within hacking distance to both Pachesham and Bookham RC, so getting the horses out and about just got easier! Sadly however we will be saying goodbye to Leon, who is going to pastures new also, but a little further away. I'm sure that I'll still see him and frequently hear from him, so it's not farewell but an exciting step forward. Staff wise there shall be myself, Ellie and of course Paul. Joining us soon shall be another top class groom who is currently working for an international rider and I'm sure will bring her fantastic expertise to us. More on her shortly!

Due to the impending move I won't be bringing any fresh horses over until we have gone, I'm off to Ireland on May 11th for a few days to pick out the first bunch to join the new yard, so if your after anything in particular please do let me know before I travel. I'm looking to bring over a fair few to get started with. Everything on the website not marked as sold is still for sale and hopefully will be settled in to lovely new homes before the big move. 

I am also pleased to announce that due to our expanding facilities we will be offering limited spaces for liveries, from DIY upwards to full/ competition with a full range of services. Onsite coaching from both myself and Paul will be available (of course outside instructors are also welcome, but once you've tried Paul you won't go back!). Sales liveries are also more than welcome and the sales livery price will be kept very competitive. The livery price list will shorly go on to the services page, so check there if your interested and in the mean time please email me. I shall be adding photos of the new yard in the next few weeks!

APRIL 9TH 2012

We have had a very busy Easter Weekend here with lots of outing for the horses in all Disciplines. Firstly well done to Polly (our yard owner) and the fantastic Cut the Corner AKA Slim for coming second in the 1.40m open on Friday at Pachesham! There's life in the old girl yet! For those that don't know Polly she has had a bit of bad luck and broke her ankle a couple of seasons ago at Hickstead, she was sent home and not told it was broken and has been on off lame ever since, and certainly not jumping the big stuff like she used too, so too get this placing was fantastic. Lots of carrots for Slim! The cobs/ponies too have been working hard and all have had a good session schooling this weekend and are going fab. Little Benny (Our 148cm talented but quirky problem child) who has been home now just over a week after going away to the fantastic Karl Standing's yard to be ridden away is riding like a dream. He is nearly ready for some shows and ready to find a top junior jockey to take him on to his next step. I have huge hopes for him and the way he's going he will be a top FEI european pony prospect either eventing or pure dressage.

My lovely project cob Toffee also did well today and did his first RIHS qaulifier at the Four Winds Show. He was pulled in second to start with but he let the judge down a little with his ride as he's still rather green and was moved to 4th. I was dead pleased with him though as it's given me the hope that he can hold his own against the hogged cobs (He's a BSPA large coloured native type) and this was his first "proper" class. He is off out again to the South of England show on Thursday to chase another RIHS ticket. 

Added to all of this we had five new Irish arrivals this morning! They are all rather nice and are the following (all are geldings) -

Toffee at Four Winds

APRIL 4TH 20212

Hunting is now over sadly and so we are having to find other ways of using our time and horses! Recently this has involved lots of XC schooling and throwing ourselves over some meaty fences. Although no one here events (far too much like hard work ;) ) all our horses should at the very least be ready to go off and do sime unaff one day events when they are sold. They will over the summer have a varied education in dressage, show jumping and cross country. It's fun taking the babies out and teaching them the ropes of the job. There's lots of hunter trials coming up round here also so we shall be out and about at these. I need to try and get my eye back in for some summer BSJA as well with the older horses. Most of the hunter hirelings will have part of the summer off now and do light work till autumn hunting starts again and they get fit. It would be nice if us humans also manged to book in a Summer holiday too! 

We have a yard full of horses for sale currently from 13.2hh upwards, as normal give me a ring with requirements, more lovely Irish horses will be here next week also.

I am also planning on doing some informative YouTube videos this summer on all aspects of horse care, turnout etc. I would love any ideas of things that you would like to know how to do or help with. This could be from correct turnout for hunting, to correct turnout for showing or how to pull a mane, plait up, what happens in a vetting etc. I am also going to do some general horse hunting help videos! Please do email with suggestions!

Spring has sprung! It's lovely being out in the sunshine all day playing with the ponies. This morning we had seven new Irish arrivals who are all stunning. There's not an ugly head amoung them and they are all fit, well and ready to go and have fun. Myself, Leon and Paula also enjoyed a lovely half days hunting today with Eddie, Dundee and Tango (Tango hasn't been introduced on here yet but he's a 15hh chestnut cob who's a good bit of fun). He will be appearing on the for sale page shortly. We have two more meets before the close of the season and so I'm picking horses very carefully for maximum enjoyment! This week I also managed to get out to some dressage on Wednesday with Alex, we took Kyle, Perry and Toffee and they were all fabulous, despite mysel
